Missionary, Philadelphian, Writer, Steward of Cats...
I am currently a candidate in the Blessed Trinity Missionary Institute (BTMI), a branch of the Missionary Cenacle family, a spiritual family within the Catholic Church. The BTMI is in the first stages of its quest to become a secular institute within the Church.
A secular institute is a form of consecrated life lived out in the world rather than in a religious community. It is a relatively new form of consecrated life within the Catholic Church. Secular institutes received official recognition on February 2, 1947 when Pope Pius XII issued a document entitled Provida Mater Ecclesia. Members of secular institutes take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience but do not join religious communities. Rather, we continue to live in the world in a variety of careers and life situations.
The BTMI is currently designated as a pious union. A pious union is the first step on the path to becoming a secular institute.
